About Us

In December 1928 the Dhubri Kalibari was established in the low lying area to fulfil the long desired aspirations of the inhabitants of the locality. This is a mile-stone in the religio-socio field of Dhubri. Under the leadership of Chintaharan Paul, some prominent personalities of the town such as Gopi Mohan Kundu, Nandalal Paul, Hare Krishna Ghosh, Sadananda Ghosh, Jashodalal Dey, Kamaksha Charan Saha, Murari Mohan Ghosh, Umesh Chandra Paul, Barada Kanta Ballav, Gopal Choudhury, Manindra Choudhury, Ramesh Chandra Paul, Tarit Bhushan Paul and others came forward and made all the arrangements to build a wooden temple and started worshipping the 'Mother Goddess Kali' made of clay (Mrinmoyee) and the Shiva Linga in 1929.

In a public meeting Kalishankar Chakraborty was elected as advisor, Mahendra Nath Chakraborty as president and Chintaharan Paul as secretary to manage all the works of the temple.

Chintaharan Paul was born in a renowned family of Dhubri. He was a student of City College, Calcutta and took his B.A. degree from Calcutta University. There he came in touch with Shree Shree Saradamani (Shree Ma) and Mahendra Nath Dutta, the second brother of Swami Vivekananda.

The Kalibari Committee collected subscription from the general public, the famous Theatre (Jatra) party were made to stage different operas for a long time about 15 years accompanied with 'Bhagbat Path' and religious discussion. The collected money had been utilised to make 'Nat Mandir' and the adjacent wooden two-storied house.

In 1928 the birth centenary of Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsadeva was celebrated under the presidentship of I. Mazid, I.A.S. officer, with full enthusiasm and gaiety in Kalibari for three days endeavoured by Chintaharan Paul. The Secretary, Chintaharan Paul also delivered a lecture on life and works of Ramkrishna and explained about the works of Ramkrishna Mission and Math. This was the first open general meeting about Ramkrishna and to establish Shree Shree Ramkrishna Sevashram at Dhubri was decided in the meeting.
